I'm on the assessment side now, but I often miss the classroom. It felt like truly meaningful work. It sure was hard to get any writing done, though. You're certainly right in that it's both rewarding and heartbreaking. They live in a world of their own and anything we can do to make them happy there is a blessing.Earl Staggshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13349667172813175960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6404036170106001374.post-17919393806755721662011-02-28T05:41:03.797-06:002011-02-28T05:41:03.797-06:00Bill, I haven't gone into the classrooms, so I...Bill, I haven't gone into the classrooms, so I don't know if I'd have to go through the disclosure procedure as you did. I do know when drivers are hired, they check for a criminal record. I'm all for anything that keeps children safe. (Rewarding because they're such great kids, heartbreaking because of the situations you sometimes have to send them home to.)

I bet you're a terrific bus driver.Jaden Terrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11113218513166921429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6404036170106001374.post-14493078669826291972011-02-26T10:30:47.596-06:002011-02-26T10:30:47.596-06:00The bus scares me, too, Mary. Of course, you can say the same about the kids, too. ;-)Earl Staggshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13349667172813175960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6404036170106001374.post-29847471908807570962011-02-26T10:27:20.002-06:002011-02-26T10:27:20.002-06:00You have to love kids, Jean, and I do - 90% of the...You have to love kids, Jean, and I do - 90% of them anyway. The rest require some discipline and that's only because they don't get enough of it at home. I could never be a teacher. Not because of the kids, but because of the idiocy of the parents and the bureaucracy teachers have to deal with.Earl Staggshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13349667172813175960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6404036170106001374.post-23237103771857631672011-02-26T09:35:21.997-06:002011-02-26T09:35:21.997-06:00Fascinating post, Earl. I was invited to a primary school (5-10 year olds) for one day during their literacy week to tell them stories and help the various classes to concoct their own. Just for that, I had to go through a 'disclosure' procedure - to confirm that I wasn't on the sex offenders register and posed no threat to the kids.

And I'm with you on that word 'ONLY' when applied to almost any job. Just as I squirm when I read things such as 'From the Managing Director DOWN TO the janitor'.Bill Kirtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07675643113010061969noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6404036170106001374.post-47872040792383797182011-02-26T09:33:34.913-06:002011-02-26T09:33:34.913-06:00This comment has been removed by the author.Bill Kirtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07675643113010061969noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6404036170106001374.post-15001870364957937662011-02-25T22:25:13.815-06:002011-02-25T22:25:13.815-06:00God bless you!
