While Willy was so tame we had to wait until he was near-starvation to give him a rat -- we had to take him to a vet once because we tried to feed him two rats and they chewed on him -- my friend's mother made him sell Willy. I think the price was $15.

Many years later my son had a pet boa. That was real popular at home, too. :<) His wife finally prevailed and made him sell it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01368973223808495975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6404036170106001374.post-81349887901416864972008-08-08T01:04:00.000-05:002008-08-08T01:04:00.000-05:00Beth,That is the neatest story. I've had a few experiences with rattlesnakes, but I wouldn't have been brave enough (or foolish enough) to try to keep one.

Ben, Willy was lucky to have escaped the vacuum cleaner alive!Jaden Terrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11113218513166921429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6404036170106001374.post-40985269049412880692008-08-07T12:52:00.000-05:002008-08-07T12:52:00.000-05:00Beth,Cute story. My mother wasn't excited about me owning Willy, as you might expect, so she made me keep him in his glass cage down in the basement, and of course, she wouldn't go down there. So the basement became the place where my buddies and I hung out. But one day, my sister brought a bunch of girls over while my mother was gone, so I brought Willy upstairs to do what boys do - show off. Well, in all the excitement, I lost Willy. I couldn't tell my mother the snake was loose in the house somewhere, so my sister and I undertook a frantic search.

No Willy.

It was some two days later while I was at school and my mother was vacuuming that she found Willy. She got his tail stuck in the vacuum cleaner.

Needless to say, I spent much of my formative youth GROUNDED. And Willy, he was given away. :<(Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01368973223808495975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6404036170106001374.post-2576114058185327882008-08-07T09:53:00.000-05:002008-08-07T09:53:00.000-05:00Wonderful story, Beth. Our formerly peaceful rural setting has evolved into several subdivisions during the past few years, displacing all the wild critters. We do, however, still see a few antelope and deer in the yard once in a while. And lots of bunny rabbits. :)

JeanJean Henry Meadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08146960738692672013noreply@blogger.com
